A TASC group has been set up and their challenge is to develop the school grounds. Children from Year 1 to Year 6 are involved in the project and they recently visited Hulme Garden Centre to get some ideas to use. The garden centre is a not for profit, community led organisation, created by 3 local residents in 1999 with a shared vision of greening and regenerating Hulme and its surrounds. As well as walking round the garden centre to get ideas for our playing, the children learnt about why it is important to step as lightly as possible upon the planet and how we can be creative with recycling. We saw how an avoidance of all chemicals can result in an abundance of wildlife. The children were able to draw some of their favourite things so that they could incorporate these ideas into their designs. Some parents also joined us on the trip and were very enthusiastic about some of the general horticultural and and environmental advice.
